Early Life & Biography

Mantak Chia was born on April 24, 1944, in Thailand. His parents are of Chinese descent. His father was a Baptist minister. At the age of six Chia began learning the Buddhist method of “stilling the mind”, Muay Thai,  T’ai chi ch’uan, Kung Fu, and Taoist. 

Chia also studied Western anatomy and medical science and learned about the physiological mechanisms behind healing energy.

Career

Mantak Chia’s first business was the establishment of his first Universal Healing Tao school in Thailand in 1974 after systematizing his knowledge of Taoism. He founded the Universal Healing Tao Center in New York in 1979. 

The center was successfully attracting a big number of American and European students. Chia returned to Thailand in  1994 and created the Universal Tao Training Center Tao Garden. He also travels the world teaching and promoting the Healing Tao practices.

Chia is also a public figure. He is a famous internet personality, He was a guest in many podcasts including Brian Rose London Real, Lilou Mace, and others.
